SPRAT / ARAA Rope Access Training Courses
ARAA are proud to confirm that as of 1st March 2019, it will be passing on the certification of rope access technicians to SPRAT.
What does this mean for ARAA technicians?
As of 1 March 2019, the ARAA will cease to certify technicians in rope access. After this date, a technician that is wishing to be evaluated/assessed will do so under the SPRAT system and, if successful, be issues a SPRAT certification.
We are pleased to say that this transition will be beneficial and seamless in its approach, as SPRAT will recognised the ARAA certification levels as commensurate to the equivalent level of SPRAT certification.
Technicians with current ARAA certification, or with certification that has expired within the past 3 years can undertake SPART certification without the need for a "direct entry" process.
SPRAT / ARAA LEVEL 1
Duration: 4 days training + 1 day of assessment
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am - 4pm
Candidate to trainer ratio: 8 to 1
Cost: $1,760.00
LEVEL 1 TECHNICIAN
A Level 1 Rope Access Worker shall have the appropriate training and qualifications for conducting standard rope access operations under the direct supervision of a Rope Access Supervisor or Rope Access Lead Technician and, at a minimum, limited rescue from rope access systems.
NOTE: A level 1 rope access technician is not allowed to supervise others
PRE-TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
- Candidates shall be at least 18 years of age at the start of the course
- Sign a liability release form and statement of physical and mental fitness to perform rope access work
- Complete a SPRAT Certification application
No experience requirement prior to training.

SPRAT / ARAA LEVEL 2
Duration: 4 days training + 1 day of assessment
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am - 4pm
Candidate to trainer ratio: 8 to 1

LEVEL 2 TECHNICIAN (Rope Access Lead Technician)
A Rope Access Lead Technician shall have the appropriate training, experience, and qualifications to perform all rope access work, rigging and, at a minimum, standard rescue procedures under the direction of a Rope Access Supervisor.
A Rope Access Lead Technician may perform limited supervision over Rope Access Workers and other Rope Access Lead Technicians under the immediate direction of a Rope Access Supervisor. Such supervisory responsibilities may only be delegated to the Rope Access Lead Technician after:
- The Rope Access Supervisor determines that the Rope Access Lead Technician is capable of providing limited supervision given the circumstances of the rope access work being performed; and
- The Rope Access Supervisor determines that the Rope Access Lead Technician is prepared to handle all work variables and potential rescue requirements.
PRE-TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
- Candidates shall be at least 18 years of age at the start of the course
- Sign a liability release form and statement of physical and mental fitness to perform rope access work
- Complete a SPRAT Certification application
- 500 hours and 6 months of documented industrial rope access experience as a Level I Technician or equivalent.

SPRAT / ARAA LEVEL 3
Duration: 4 days training + 1 day of assessment
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am - 4pm

LEVEL 3 TECHNICIAN (Rope Access Supervisor)
A Rope Access Supervisor shall have overall responsibility for the rope access work site and the rope access technicians assigned to that work site.
To the extent that other qualified rope access technicians are assigned a duty or responsibility that is also designated as a duty or responsibility of the Rope Access Supervisor, the Rope Access Supervisor shall retain primary responsibility to ensure and/or verify that the assigned task is accomplished.
Where appropriate, the Rope Access Supervisor may also perform duties and responsibilities of the Rope Access Lead Technician and the Rope Access Worker, to the extent that it does not prevent the effective performance of the Rope Access Supervisor's duties and responsibilities required.
The Rope Access Supervisor shall have the authority to stop the work immediately if it is unsafe to proceed.
PRE-TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
- Candidates shall be at least 18 years of age at the start of the course
- Sign a liability release form and statement of physical and mental fitness to perform rope access work
- Complete a SPRAT Certification application
- 500 hours and 6 months of documented industrial rope access experience as a Level II Technician or equivalent (1000 hours total).
- The majority of the 500 hours experience should be directly related to the techniques and field environment that the candidate will be expected to supervise.
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications
