COMBINED COURSE:
WORK SAFELY AT HEIGHTS & CONDUCT LOCAL RISK CONTROL

Students must possess the ability to read and accurately interpret documentation related to working at heights. Clear and effective communication in English is essential, including the ability to explain, describe, and verify complex needs and issues. Understanding risk assessment procedures is also necessary.

Writing skills are required for completing workplace forms and generating necessary reports. Numeracy skills are needed to accurately calculate, for example, total fall distances. Additionally, students should have sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy abilities to comprehend work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures, legislation, and work requirements. Effective communication within the team or workgroup is important for identifying unacceptable risks, selecting and implementing risk controls, and performing basic arithmetic operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

• Basic computer skills to complete workplace forms and reports.

• The ability to monitor and minimise own exposure to worksite risks and hazards during activities 

• Psychological and physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstrations for this course, such as the undertaking of the requirements to work safely at heights wearing appropriate PPE and using appropriate fall protection equipment.

• Participants will need sufficient physical ability to lift equipment infrequently from ground to overhead and access heights above 2m.

• Hazard/risk control equipment.
• Hazard identification and risk assessment form.
• Incident report form.
• Workplace incident/injury reporting documentation.

• Identify unacceptable risk using the acceptability/unacceptability criteria.
• Work with others to determine risk controls.
• Assess and determine the consequences and likelihood of potential risk.
• Control risk by selecting and implementing the most appropriate controls.
• Complete reports and records about the risk assessment and treatment implementation.
• Monitor and minimise own exposure to worksite risks and hazards during activities.
• Safely work at heights on at least two occasions, including: • On a brittle surface with multiple skylights. • On a flat surface with uneven ground conditions.
• Evaluate hazards and risks associated with working at heights and apply appropriate control measures.
• Select, wear, and maintain personal protective equipment.
• Identify necessary safety systems, including fall protection and related equipment.

The student must complete all documentation according to the required standard:

• Access, interpret and apply technical and safety information. including the JSEA/ SWMS for each scenario, for working at heights.
• Complete two (2) Job Safety Environmental Analysis (JSEA)/ Safe Work Methods Statement (SWMS) forms .
• Complete two (2) local risk control case studies.
• Complete an equipment maintenance log.

 A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must successfully complete all assessment questions.
